One of, if not the most essential need of humans is a reason to get up in the morning. Since 1992, residents at The Haven at Silverwoods assisted living facility in Toms River have had every reason to cherish each new day: the joy of living in their own beautiful and spacious apartment, one resident at a time attention from the most compassionate and experienced caregivers, and most of all, daily dedication to their zest for living.

The Haven at Silverwoods continues to set the standard for what assisted living can be. It is the result of the biggest talent in senior care, the most diverse understanding of seniors needs, and the most comprehensive activity programming, all coming together in a beautiful South Jersey location to create a one of a kind environment for enhancing senior lives and lifestyles.

With specializations in wellness, physical therapy, memory loss, and more, The Haven at Silverwoods has become one of the area’s most highly regarded assisted living communities. But perhaps what makes this new life journey such a rewarding one for residents is the ever-expanding activities program. Its success can be measured by the transformation of the residents, who grow more hopeful, happy, socially, physically and emotionally healthy through the activities they love. By filling their days with new life and meaning, and constant encouragement, residents at this bustling non-stop community begin to see the sunlight break through the dark clouds that come with aging, and have every reason to be hopeful for the future.

With a world of activities and events happening daily, a major advantage that The Haven offers residents is choice. At any one time, several groups of seniors can be engaged simultaneously in the activity of their choosing. These structured activities cater to residents’ individual interests, strengths or limitations, and are adaptive to their emotional and psychological state, and the extent of openness to socialization. While one group is engaged in arts and crafts, other seniors can be busy in horticulture classes, playing all sorts of board, word, and trivia games, participating in daily exercises, or meeting for regularly scheduled activities such as bumper pool, poker, shuffleboard, lively discussion groups and more.

At The Haven, residents are constantly, but respectfully encouraged to engage in the activities that help build active minds, bodies and souls. Even the most apprehensive seniors slowly but surely begin to feel the happiness and comfort that comes from joining their neighbors singing karaoke, dancing at a party, surfing the Internet to plug into world events, going on a fun day trip, and staying connected to a community that celebrates life and lifestyles. Perhaps the greatest benefit residents reap from a full calendar of physical, social and intellectual opportunities are the new and lasting friendships they create.

The Haven at Silverwoods has always held true to the belief that staff longevity and familiarity between caregivers and residents builds trust and creates a comfort zone in which residents feel empowered to get involved in the activities that support their well being. That being the case, it must be with great anticipation that they welcome back one of their most highly regarded caregivers, Grace Mantes, who now returns as Activities Director.

Years back, having emigrated to the U.S. from her native Philippines; Ms. Mantes began at The Haven as an activities assistant. Soon, the scope of her responsibilities grew, and she was entrusted to help plan and design many of the activities that are in place today. It can be expected that she will have an immediate impact in bringing one of the most renowned activities programs in the senior care industry to an even higher level.

In addition to the two plus decades of experience working with both adolescents and seniors, Ms. Mantes brings to The Haven’s residents a passion that can’t be taught. “What should and could be the difference at The Haven is the enthusiasm, creativeness and passion that our activity professionals put into the delivery of the program,” says Ms. Mantes. “We want our residents to be happy and fulfilled each day. That is our battle cry and our chant.”

Even the most comprehensive activities program has room for innovation. In addition to live entertainment, trips to Broadway and the Jersey Shore, outings to favorite restaurants, talents shows, and more, just added highlights include more historical, seasonal, and “out of the blue” themed events. This past July featured a weeklong sports competition––Summer Olympics Week, and a delightful Summertime -Themed Lunch Party. August brought a Hawaiian Luau that residents are still talking about. These are the kinds of celebrations and social gatherings specially created to bring new dimensions of joy and community camaraderie, and is part of what makes The Haven at Silverwoods the kind of assisted living that seniors and their families can really love.

Located here in Ocean County, The Haven at Silverwoods is a Hovnanian Senior Housing Services community that is a family owned and operated organization for more than 50 years.
